What is hyperpigmentation?

Hyperpigmentation occurs when patches of your skin grow darker. It might appear in the form of dark patches of skin, acne, eczema, brown spots or black spots.

The condition can be caused by old age, pregnancy, overexposure to the sun or other skin trauma such as rashes, bruises and acne.

The symptoms of hyperpigmentation can appear anywhere on your body, but are perhaps most common on your face, body, and intimate area.

Hyperpigmentation in the intimate area

Although the signs of hyperpigmentation generally appear in exposed areas of your skin, it's also common for your intimate area. Although it's not serious, it can cause discomfort and lead to feelings of self-consciousness and anxiety.

Hyperpigmentation in the intimate area are caused by the same things as anywhere else on your body. However, in your intimate area it can also come about as a result of your skin rubbing together and generating friction.

Frequently asked questions

We use special cosmetic products to reverse the effects of hyperpigmentation. Typically we use a combination of creams and peels to get the best results possible.

Our treatment stimulates fibroblast growth factors that improve the texture and colour of your skin. This helps to reverse the signs of pigmentation and ageing.

Your hyperpigmentation treatment starts with an initial consultation at our clinic in Dublin. This is where we assess your condition and decide on the best course of treatment.

Our hyperpigmentation treatment is suitable for men and women who want to improve the appearance of dark patches of skin caused by hyperpigmentation. It is a non-invasive treatment without the use of needles.

The treatment isn't suitable for people with signs of skin irritation or skin conditions such as seborrheic dermatitis. It's also not suitable for those who are pregnant, breastfeeding or allergic to the ingredients in the products.

You might see some redness or irritation after your treatment, but this tends to be very mild and normally disappears within a few days. Otherwise there are no reported side effects of our hyperpigmentation treatment.

We recommend a total of 5 sessions spaced 15 days apart. Each session should take no more than 30 minutes.

We can assess your condition and suggest the best course of action during your initial consultation.
