What is platelet-rich plasma?

Plasma is the liquid part of blood. Platelets are a type of blood cell that play an important role in healing your body. They can help to stimulate new cell production and tissue regeneration in the target area.

As simple as it may sound, platelet-rich plasma is simply plasma (blood) with high levels of these platelets.

The benefits of PRP injections

Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) injections have a range of potential benefits. They can:

  • rejuvenate your skin
  • reduce the appearance of wrinkles, stretch marks & scars
  • help to prevent hair loss
  • accelerate recovery from injuries
  • combat back pain
  • treat women's health issues such as vaginismus or incontinence

As you can see, PRP injections are a really versatile treatment that can address a number of cosmetic and health concerns.

Your choice for PRP injections in Dublin

At Dundrum Clinic we use the Regen Kit A-PRP to administer PRP injections. It is a pain-free way of administering the treatment that has little to no downtime for the patient.

Before your first appointment, we'll first invite you to an initial consultation at our Dublin clinic. This is your chance to let us know what you're hoping to get from treatment. We'll then assess your condition and decide on the best course of action.

Frequently asked questions

At Dundrum Clinic we perform the treatment in the following areas:

  • FACE: When PRP injections are used together with the CO2 laser, microneedling and other skin resurfacing techniques, they can enhance results and speed up healing time.
  • SCALP: To reduce hair loss or strengthen your roots before or after hair implants.
  • BODY: When injected into the body, PRP can improve the appearance of stretch marks and scars.
  • INTIMATE: In the intimate area, it helps to treat urinary incontinence, menopause, vaginal dryness, dyspareunia, flaccidity, etc.

PRP injections can have a number of potential benefits for your body, including:

  • Improve skin texture and firmness
  • Reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles
  • Stimulate hair growth
  • Improve the appearance of stretch marks and scars
  • Support recovery from wounds and joint injuries
  • Accelerate healing process after surgery
  • Help with conditions in the intimate area

Firstly, blood is drawn from the patient's vein, just as if we were going to perform a blood test. This blood is taken to a centrifuge that separates the platelets and growth factors from the rest of the components. Once these are obtained, we inject them into the treatment area.

One session of PRP injections normally lasts around 30 minutes.

Because PRP injections contain substances from your own body, it significantly reduces the risk of an allergic reaction. However, there are still some potential side effects to be aware of. These include:

  • infection
  • pain and swelling around the injection site
  • nerve injuries

During your initial consultation, and before the treatment itself, we'll be happy to discuss any potential side effects with you. We'll also be happy to explain what steps we're taking to minimise those risks.

Some patients start to see the benefits of PRP injections after just 2-3 weeks. However, this can and will vary hugely depending on a number of factors.

Although the price depends on a number of factors, the cost of PRP injections starts at around €400 per session.
